Charles "Chip" MacArthur Sr. of Sugar Island, Michigan passed away unexpectedly on August 19, 2019 at the Mackinac Straits Hospital.  Chip was born on March 11, 1961 to Grace and Edward "Ed" MacArthur of Sault Ste. Marie, MI.  Chip was known throughout the community for his kindness, generosity, excellent sense of humor, and as a mentor.

As an avid outdoorsman, Chip suffered annually from Buck Fever.  His hunting and fur trapping skills were admirable.  Everyone loves his smoked fish, smoked hams, and the plethora of venison dishes and jerky he has shared over the years.  He spent many hunting seasons teaching his children the traditional ways of harvesting wild game.

Chip also loved fishing with his best friend, Matt.  They spent hundreds of hours over the past 15 years fishing along the Sugar Island banks.  The bigger the fight the better the fish.  We may have heard a fishing fable or two over the years.

Chip is survived by his mom, Grace MacArthur, and his wife, Gail MacArthur.  He leaves behind his daughter, Brandi MacArthur, and two step-daughters, Kelly Daniels (Andy), and Catherine Barnett.

He also leaves behind a son, Charles "CJ" MacArthur Jr. (Cassie) (our mom, Cindy MacArthur), a step-son, Russell Lunsford (Irene), and two grandsons Stephen and Maison MacArthur.

Sadly, Chip's first granddaughter is due in four weeks and she'll never have the opportunity to meet the man who impacted the lives of so many people.  You can bet she will hear lots of stories over the years as Chip's family continues living his traditional lifestyle and passing along his life lessons for many future generations.  He may no longer be here with us on Earth, but he will never be forgotten.

Chip also leaves behind two brothers, Alan (Carolyn), Alexis (Anthony), and Bradley MacArthur.  Dale (Patricia Jones), Kariann (Jordan & Harper), Travis (Lacey) MacArthur, and sister-in-law, Lynn MacArthur.

He also leaves behind one sister, Karen (Cheri & Brianna) MacArthur along with many aunts, uncles, grand kids, great grand kids,  cousins, and friends.

Chip is predeceased by his father, Ed MacArthur, and his brother, James "Jimmy" MacArthur.

Chip's fire ceremony was performed at 2 PM on August 20, 2019.  His fire will remain burning for the duration of his funeral.

On Wednesday, August 21, 2019: Family and Friends will be performing a welcoming ceremony which is open to the public.  His arrival is set for Noon.  Please take the time to come welcome him and help us send him off safely onto his journey into the Spirit World.  Family visitation is from 12-3 PM.  (This also includes close family friends and some co-workers who were like family to him).  Public / drop-in visitation will be open from 3-5 PM.  Our feast is scheduled for 5 PM followed by a pipe ceremony at 7 PM.

On Thursday, August 22, 2019: Public/Drop-in visitation will be from 1-5 PM.  Chip's Fest is scheduled for 5 PM followed by a pipe ceremony at 7 PM.

On Friday, August 23, 2019: 9-10 AM is for his close family and friends.  Funeral services will be orated by Brother John Hascall at the Niigaanagiizhik (Cultural facility) at 11 AM.  Burial services will occur on Sugar Island at the Wilwalk Cemetery.  All of this will be followed by one last feast!  Please bring a dish or at least a good Chip Story and help us celebrate his life.  Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be left at www.clarkbaileynewhouse.com.
