My name is John Collyer White. I was born January 31, 1949 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. I graduated from Soo High in 1967 and spent 4 years in the United States Navy. Later I graduated from Lake Superior State University in 1988 and again in 1990.

So, I have gone to my Maker and thank Him for the life He gave me.

My Mom and Dad, Mary Jane and Paul and my sister Kathy have gone on before. So, this is about the ones I have left behind.

To my brothers Bill and Tim; You have been not just my brothers, but my best friends. Thank you for the love and support you have given me.

To my incredible wife Lise; I love you beyond words. You gave me so much of yourself and inspired me to always be better than I was. You have been my rock and my best friend. There are no words to describe how grateful I am for the love and support you gave me!

To my daughter Serena; You have always been the light of my life! I love you beyond words. Thank you for Logan and Ryker our two beautiful grandsons, and thank you for all the love and support you have given me.

To my children Tyler and Jacqueline; Thank you for the love and support you have always given me. Love you. Jacqueline, thank you for Louen and Esme’ our two beautiful grandchildren.

To the Berthelots; Thank you for allowing me into your lives and for all the love and support you have given Lise and me.

To BC, Tony, Sharpie, David, Coach; Thank you for the friendship, support and prayers you have given me.

To Biff and David; Thank you for the many, many years of friendship!

I was blessed to have spent the last few years of my working life at Bay Mills Community College among a great group of people. Bay Mills always felt like home to me. Stephen, Nancy, Jan, Brent, Stephanie, Jeanie and Samantha, thank you for the friendship, love, support and prayers you have given me. And to the many students that passed my way through the years; you all touched my heart in some way and inspired me to be a better teacher.

There are many others I have been blessed to know through church, music and sports who have filled my life with inspiration and friendship. Thank you All.

Lise,
So sorry hear of Johns passing. As a high school friend we spent many days with the old gang of friends and for the impromptu golf lessons a game you excelled at. A good friend, you will be missed but never forgotten

I became friends with John at Sault Tribe, BMCC, then as an instructor for several classes I was in. Our differences in politics and life kept our laughing antagonistic banter going throughout the years. His genuine smile will so greatly be missed. The educational knowledge and musical talent that he freely shared will be a loss to so many.
I have kept and will continue to keep your family's peace in prayer.
God be with you all.

I was shocked, saddened and all kinds of emotions because I won't hear the word "Sweet" again. You put up a good fight and never gave up. The one thing that stood out in your obituary is "And to the many students that passed my way through the years; you all touched my heart in some way and inspired me to be a better teacher." Believe it or not you couldn't become a better teacher...Because you were one of the Best. Students may have inspired you through the years but YOU touched the heart and soul of every student you interacted with and inspired them to shoot for the moon because you went above and beyond and connected with them in one way or another. I do hope you know that. (I'm sure you do).

John's modest and persistent presence as well as his service to our students and school were a source of inspiration for many of us at BMCC. I also had the privilege of counting myself among his students of his recent guitar lessons and music sharing. I will keep his memory in my heart with all cherished songs and music that were his last gifts to us before he passed on. Thank you for the time you spent with us here!

John's family-

I did not get the opportunity to know any of you but John was a special person in my life at BMCC. He was easy to talk to. I considered him a friend that I wish I had gotten the opportunity to know better. He was a unique individual.
