Donald C. Kincheloe of Dollar Settlement, Michigan passed away January 21, 2019 at the Cheboygan Hospice House.

Don was born December 13, 1951 in Redfield, South Dakota. He entered the United States Air Force in 1970 and while stationed at Kincheloe Air Force Base he met his wife Shirley from Brimley, MI. In November 1972, Don and Shirley married and shortly thereafter moved to Miller, SD where Don managed his parents’ bowling alley. In 1975, Don and Shirley had their first son Donald Jr. In 1976, they moved to Southern California where their second son Clayton was born in 1979. Don was employed at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard and continued a career working for the Department of Defense in Quality Assurance until he retired in 2003. He took great pride in the support he provided to the U.S. Military during his career. After retiring, Don spent the majority of his time taking care of Shirley, a two-time kidney transplant patient, until she finally succumbed to her ailments in 2008. Don enjoyed the solitude of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and that is where he met his second love, Kathi Chartrand. Don and Kathi enjoyed rustic camping along with many adventures on his side-by-side ATV.

He is survived by his loving girlfriend Kathi Chartrand along with his two sons; Donald Kincheloe Jr. (Jill Slater) of Brimley, Michigan and Clayton Kincheloe (Melissa Colby) of Charlevoix, Michigan. Don cherished the time he was able to spend with his three grandchildren: Kayla, Shane and Wyatt. They will miss him considerably. He is also survived by his two sisters Diana (Ed) Hancock of Ocala, Florida and Bonnie Gamber of Medicine Lodge, Kansas. Don’s parents, Don and Evelyn, along with his wife Shirley have preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held Monday January 28th, 2019 5:00pm – 8:00pm at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church in Bay Mills, Michigan. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday January 29th, 2019 at 10:00am with Brother John Hascall as Celebrant. Burial will planned for a later date in the spring at Mission Hill Cemetery.

So sorry for your loss. Don and I were brothers of different mothers (and fathers). I join you in sorrow over the loss of Don. But hope all can take comfort in his ascendance to a greater life. God bless you all.

Don & Clayton, There are no words to express how very sorry I am and I feel just horrible that the weather kept me from attending your Dad's funeral. I'm so glad I got to visit with him a few times while he was at the hospital in Petoskey. We shared some great stories and memories of our friendship in Boyne. As I write this, I can still hear his laughter. He had such a great laugh. Love and peace to you and your families during this sadness. Mark and Christine
