Charlotte “Marie” Cameron passed peacefully in her sleep Saturday, January 5, 2019 at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.  She was born on January 21, 1925 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and grew up in Raco. Marie lived most of her life in Bay Mills where she met her beloved husband and raised their children.

Marie married Harold Cameron, Sr. on January 8, 1945 at St. Catherine’s Church in Bay Mills. They had 11 children, 33 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Marie is survived by her children: Harold “Jr.” and Corrine Cameron, Darryl and Edith Cameron, Arnold “Hawk” and Jessie Cameron, Penny and Chuck Leapley, Carrie Cameron and the late John Henry Hanover, Joel Cameron, Norman and Eileen Cameron, and Carol and Chris Carrick. Her brother and sister-in-law Gerald and Gloria Teeple, and sister-in-law Ethel Teeple.  Marie was a very proud grandmother and auntie of many, many nieces and nephews. Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Cameron, Sr., her parents, Henry and Lydia Teeple, brothers Frank, Dean, and Clifford “Teep” Teeple, sisters Norma Jesse, Patricia, and Beatrice Teeple, her son, Aaron “Bill” Cameron, Sr., her daughters, Leola Calder and Mary Jane Cameron, grandsons Aaron “Billy” Cameron, Jr., Dennis Cameron, and Nicholas Cameron and her granddaughter, Jackie Leapley.

Marie was a Bay Mills Indian Community tribal member. As young woman, she attended trade school where she learned welding and auto mechanics. After raising her family she loved her work as a housekeeper at Kings Club Casino where she was able to visit with the locals and out-of-towners. After her time as a housekeeper, Marie worked as an Elders Outreach Assistant where she could continue to visit and lend a helping hand to community members. Her favorite place to work was with the Bay Mills Senior Citizen program as a kitchen assistant, preparing lunches for the “Meals on Wheels” program.

On a nice day, it was rare for those who drove by not to see Marie enjoying one of her favorite pastimes: sitting on her porch watching all of the traffic. It didn’t take a lot to make her happy. She always enjoyed visits to the casino, “quick” trips to Wal-Mart, watching her sons and grandsons play softball, or attending any events her grandkids were involved in at the schools.

The times Marie spent with her family were her happiest. She loved Christmas time and the Fourth of July, but anytime someone came to the door she always greeted them with a smile - and never said good bye.

The family of Marie would like to thank Dr. Daniel Maloney for his years of healthcare, and also the War Memorial Hospital 2nd floor nursing staff and Dr. Kiester for taking care of her in her last days with us.

Visitation will be held 6:00pm until 9:00pm Tuesday January 8, 2019 at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00am Wednesday January 9, 2019 at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church with Brother John Hascall as Celebrant.  Final resting place will be in Mission Hill Cemetery.  Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be left at www.clarkbaileynewhouse.com.
