Joseph ‘Pete’ Howard McCarthy of Pickford, Michigan passed away Sunday April 2, 2017 at Hearthside Assisted Living in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.  He was born August 10, 1931 in Pickford, Michigan.  Pete lived and worked in Detroit for many years.  He worked at General Motors and retired from there in 1988 before moving to the Mt. Morris area.  Pete served in the US Army in Korea from 1950 until 1952 receiving many awards including The Purple Heart with Cluster, Combat Medics Badge, Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, and The United Nations Service Medal.  “Pete” is a nickname his mother gave him as a child.  Pete is survived by his sister Gladys Carmean of St. Ignace, Michigan.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.  Pete is predeceased by his brothers John(Verona) McCarthy, Robert(infant) McCarthy, and Ray McCarthy.  Also preceding him in death are his sisters Rita(William) Graham, Frances (Maurice) Donnely, Roberta(Bernard) LaDuke, Irene(Bert) Doepker, and Audrey(Alex) Handziak, a niece Rebecca Benzing, and nephews Richard McCarthy, William Carmean, and John LaDuke. Also predeceased by cousins Sandra Doepker and Reverend David Doepker.  Visitation will be Friday April 7, 2017 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be Friday April 7, 2017 at 1:00pm with Father Sebastian Kavumkal officiating.  Final resting place will be in  Donaldson Holy Family cemetery in Barbeau, Michigan.  The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hearthside Assisted Living.  Online condolences may be left at www.clarkbaileynewhouse.com
