Harriett Esther MacMaster, 84, a lifelong resident, died peacefully Saturday evening, July 9, 2016 at the Robert and Helen Ball Hospice House in Sault Ste. Marie, MI in the presence of her loving family.  She was born March 28, 1932 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to Charles and Mary (Godin/Gordon) Bedore.
Harriett graduated from Loretto Catholic High School in 1950.  She worked as a telephone operator for the Bell Telephone Company for several years, before marrying Gordon MacMaster, on February 19, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Gordon and Harriett attended Catholic school together from first grade through graduation.  It was their later years of high school that they started dating.
Harriett was a loving mother, who lived her life for God, her husband and family. She was involved with the PTA, and helped start the Bucket Brigade (a program that assisted children with learning disabilities) in the school systems.  She was an avid music lover, played the piano, organ, and sang with the Mary Wood Chorus and Sweet Adelines.  When she had time, Harriett enjoyed playing golf and sewing.
She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish, in particular, singing in the choir, and was a member of the Ladies Guild.  She was involved with the Adoration Chapel at St. Mary’s Pro-Cathedral and also the re-opening of St. Mary’s Catholic School.  Harriett was a positive influence and was always there for anyone who needed her assistance.
Harriett is survived by her husband, Gordon of 61 years; their seven children, Mary June, Pamela (Dale) Hanchera, Gordon Rob (Dawn) MacMaster, Kathy (Keith) Springstead, Stephanie (William) Anderson, Elizabeth (Richard) Stanchina, Christopher (Jill) MacMaster and exchange student, Francisco Correa, who is family to us all; fourteen grandchildren: Erin June; Jason (Kamalani), Nicholas (Sarah), Timothy, Coby, and Jacob (Marianne) MacMaster; Karrie (Kyle) Christian; Kelsey (Darren) Green; William (Lindsay) Anderson; Kylie Anderson; Connor and Brendan Elliott, Dominic and Matthew Stanchina; and five great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by two sisters: Theresa Bedore Tietz (Joseph) of Tampa, FL and Elizabeth Bedore Utecht (Arthur) of Sault Ste. Marie, MI.
Harriett is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mabel Bedore Kusiak (Cass) and Margaret Bedore Kravis (John); and brothers, Charles, Edward, Victor, Peter, Theodore, and Raymond.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Wednesday July 13, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Michael Chenier and Father Benedetto Paris as Celebrants with Deacon William Piche assisting.  A luncheon for friends and family will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 2755 Ashmun Street (M-129), Sault Ste. Marie, MI.
A very special thank you to Dr. Chander, Fr. Michael Chenier, Fr. Sebastian Kavumkal, Fr. Benedetto Paris, Deacon William Piche and also to the staff at Tendercare, War Memorial Hospital and the Eastern Upper Peninsula (EUP) Hospice House who helped during her final months.  Memorial contributions may be made to EUP Hospice House, St. Mary’s Catholic School or St. Joseph Catholic Church. It is with a heavy heart that I express my sympathies to you and your family. I only knew Harriett from Tendercare but it was very evident that she was a kind and caring person. Please know that you are in my prayers during this difficult time. I know that your faith is strong, and are assured that it will see you through even this difficult experience.

To my father's dearest sister Harriet/family:

Ecclesiastes3:1-4 – To every thing there is a season, a time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born, a time to die, a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal, a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.

Prayers are sent to all of you from far away in Phoenix, AZ

Doc and Family,
It is with a heavy heart that I read of Harriett's passing. I remember her warm welcome to us when we moved in next door in 1988. She told me how glad she was that we had bought the house and gave me a big hug. We couldn't have had more wonderful and caring neighbors! She was a wonderful person and we were so sad when she became ill and you had to sell the house and leave the neighborhood. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you but she is in the loving arms of our Lord and at peace.

Thessalonians 5:11 ►

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

I believe Aunt Harriett and Uncle Gordon have been living by this standard, and passed this belief to their children and grandchildren.

Aunt Harriett I know You are watching over us now, and we all miss you very much, and look forward to the day of reuniting with you in all God"s glory.

Uncle Gordon, Chris, Beth, Steph, Pam, Mary, Gordy, Kathy my thoughts and prayers are with you.
Love Jimmy(Tom&Jan's son (Pete & Lorena's Grandson))

Mr. MacMaster, Mary, Pam, Gordie, Kathy, Stephanie, Beth, Christopher and Fransisco and extended families
God's Wonderful Grace
Just as sure as the stars in Heaven
Shine forth in the darkness of night
We can rely on the love of God
To carry us through our plight.
Just as sure as the sun each morning
Gives of its light through the day,
We can know that we have God's presence
No matter what comes our way.
We may not have all the answers
To the many trials we face,
But on one thing we can always rely-
We are kept by God's wonderful grace. *Olive B. Elvin*

I am so sorry for all of your loss. She was a beautiful lady and I know heaven was opening its doors for her at her last breath. I am sorry I missed her service, I had to drive Ron to the Dr in TC or we would have attended.
