William Samuel Mourufas owner of the Savoy Bar passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday March 8, 2016.  William was born on November 13, 1928 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to Samuel and Emmy Mourufas.  He attended school in Sault Ste. Marie and Marquette.  William married Irene Aho of Rudyard and they raised six children.  Helen Gravelle, Sandra (John) Gervais, Samuel (Dellis) Mourufas, Jaana Cox, Mary (Manny) Gevakios, and Nicholas Mourofas.  William was called to serve in the Army during the Korean War in October of 1952 thru 1954.  He served as a cook at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.  William played hockey for the Soo Indians and also enjoyed boating, hunting, and socializing with family and friends.  He was a lifetime member of the Greek Orthodox Church, the Elks, and American Legion.  He is preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Emmy Mourufas, his sister Helen, and his granddaughter Mellisa May Mourufas.  William is survived by his wife, Irene, of 63 years, all six of his children, 15 grandchildren, and 31 great grandchildren.  Visitation will be on Saturday March 12, 2016 from 11:00 am until noon at St. George Greek Orthodox Church at 511 Court street Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.  Funeral services will be at noon on Saturday March 12, 2016 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Ciprian Streza officiating.  Burial will take place at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens.  Online condolences may be left at www.clarkbaileynewhouse.com
