Mary Roberge died October 13.2012 at Tendercare Sault Ste. Marie after a brief illness. She was born January 15, 1923 to Herbert and Vera (Calbeck) Atkinson in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan and lived in the Soo her entire life graduating from Sault High School. Mary married Nicholas Ludwig Roberge June 22, 1950 at Saint Josephs'' Church in Sault Sainte Marie. They were married for 45 years until Nick''s death in 1995. As a couple they enjoyed roller skating, ice skating and snow mobiling and spending time with family and friends. Mary was proud of her Irish heritage and St. Patrick''s Day was one of her favorite holidays. One of her greatest joys was becoming a grandmother and she loved spending time with her granddaughters. Mary was a homemaker after her marriage and enjoyed sewing, needlepoint and cake decorating. She was a Blue Bird and Camp Fire leader when her daughters were members. She was also on War Memorial Hospital Auxiliary working in the gift shop and flea market with her sisters. Mary is survived by her daughters Denise (Gary) Roe and Kim (Chuck) Norton both of Sault Ste. Marie. She is also survived by her granddaughters Danielle (Rob) Hendrick of Farmington Hills MI and Tenley Roe, a CMU student at Mt. Pleasant, MI. Also surviving are two sisters, Vera Benoit of Sault Ste Marie and Bev Hamachek of Northbrook Illinois. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her sister Melva (Atkinson) Gabel, brothers William Atkinson and Jack Atkinson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph''s Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 19, 2012 with Father Piotr Zaczynski as Celebrant assisted by Deacon Bill Piche. Burial will be at Oakland Chapel Gardens. Donations in her name can be made to the American Heart Association or Alzheimer''s Association. The family wishes to thank the staff of Tendercare for their care and support during her illness. Clark-Bailey-Newhouse Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
