Elizabeth (Betty) Ann (Mingay) Ranson passed away Thursday December 27, 2012 at Freighter View Assisted Living. Betty was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 17, 1917 to Charles and Belle Mingay. The family moved to Sault Ste. Marie where Betty attended the Sault Schools. She graduated from Sault High in the class of 1935. She was employed by Michigan Bell until she married Cody William Ranson in 1939. They were married 50 years until his death in 1989. Betty and Cody have 6 daughters, Ann Marie (Sandy) Ware, Sault Ste. Marie; Catherine Fornnarino, Highlands Ranch, CO; Carol (Mike Gibson) Hurst, Gainesville, FL; Susan (Bob) Faunt, Sault Ste. Marie, MI; Margaret Viele, Gainesville, FL; Mary Lynn (Mark) Zimmerman, Oakdale, CT. They have 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Betty is also survived by her brother Jack Mingay of Brimley, MI / Punta Gorda, FL.

Betty was the ultimate wife and mother; keeping a home, sewing clothes for six daughters and being actively involved in the girls'' school activities. As busy as she was, she always found time to volunteer. In 2008, the War Memorial Hospital Auxiliary honored her for 54 years of service. Betty was an active member of St. Joseph''s Catholic Church.

The last years of Betty''s life were spent at Freighter View Assisted Living & Continuing Care Facility. The family appreciates the care and love that was shown to her by the staff & residents of this facility.

Her ready smile and willing helpful hand will be missed not only by her family but by her many friends in Sault Ste. Marie & beyond.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00am Tuesday July 30, 2013 at St. Joseph''s Catholic Church with Father Jose Maramattam as Celebrant and Deacon Bill Piche assisting. Final resting place will be in Oaklawn Chapel Gardens. Online condolences may be left at www.clarkbaileynewhouse.com.

My deepest sympathy in the loss of Betty. We enjoyed many years as neighbors on Park Street and Betty couldn't have been a better neighbor. Some of our kids grew up together and we had many fun outdoor gatherings in the summer with other neighbors. Betty was a most energetic and upbeat person. She will always be fondly remembered.

I didn't know your Mom but the fact that she raised such wonderful caring daughters says worlds about her charactor. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Dear Ranson Family: Please accept my sincerest condolences for the loss of your Mom/Grandma and friend. Your Mom was a big influence on me, growing up. She was a wonderful woman who had high expectations for her girls and her girls' friends...and she would "gently" remind us if our behavior was not as it should be! I will treasure memories of delicious smells from her kitchen and of her making my mittens with "idiot strings" because I was so apt to lose them. She is at peace and is once again with her beloved Cody. Mrs Ranson was very special to me and many people and will surely be missed.

To the Ranson's Family I am so sorry to read of the death of your mother. She was such a wonderful lady. Your mother was so good to my mom. Many memories of going to your cabin when I was a little girl. Your mom was such a great cook. I loved her sticky buns. Please except the sympathy of all the Malcolm's. Your family will be in our thoughts and prays.
