Russell James Mauris of Sault Sainte Marie passed away Monday February 21, 2011 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Fox Lake, Minnesota, on June 25th, 1930 to Francis and Agnes (Bublitz) Mauris. The family moved to rural Winnebago, Minnesota in March 1932. Russell graduated from Winnebago High School in 1948 and attended College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota earning a Bachelor''s Degree in Chemistry. He attended graduate school at University of Detroit and University of Toronto, earning his Master''s. He began his teaching as assistant professor of chemistry at Michigan Tech Soo Branch, later Lake Superior State College, in 1957. Health reasons forced his retirement in 1973. While in Detroit, he married Pauline Jankowski in 1954. Russ and Pauline were blessed with 6 children: Thomas, Tony (Anna), Mike (Ruth), Mary, Judy Glaser and Stephen (Suzanne). He is survived by his sister Mary Ann Anderson of Atlantic, Iowa and sisters-in-law Lois Mauris of Winnebago, Minnesota and Delores Finlay of Warren, Michigan; his grandchildren Michael Badger, Kristy (Ryan) Madigan, Jason Mauris, Charles E. Mauris, Ryan and Adam Glaser, Samantha and Julie Mauris, Alexander, Emily and Andrew Mauris. Great-grandchildren Felicity Madigan, Haden Thompson and Dominic Nalette. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert and his wife of 54 years, Pauline. Russ always seemed to be involved with some musical, social or professional activity a" school and church choirs, student manager for football and basketball, National Honor Society, marching band and class plays in high school, concert band, opera and student chemistry club in college. He enjoyed fishing especially as a youth. He sometimes played broomball with his associates. Russ also enjoyed collegiate basketball, track and football. A truly handsome gentleman, his singing voice was a ministry unto itself especially at Christmas and Easter. He will be sadly missed by his family, church and community. Visitation for Russell J. Mauris will be at Clark''s Bailey-Newhouse Funeral Home on Thursday, February 25th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary''s Pro Cathedral on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to either St. Mary''s Catholic School or St. Mary''s Church.

My prayers are with all of you. Your dad was a good man, he was very practical and smart. I know you all will miss him, but he will always be in your hearts. He will always be there looking over all of you. Take care. Love Kathy

Our condolence goes out to all of you, for all of you had a wonderful father, and my mother had a dear and wonderful brother. We will remember Russ for what we all have learned and experienced from him. God had created a wonderfull child and now he has called him to join him. We will always remember Russell. God Bless.
